RABC is a female led club with two of our three directors women, the
majority of our committee and two female coaches. We champion female boxing
and provide opportunities both for our members and the general public to
strive for parity in the sport. Our female project ‘Don’t Throw Away Your
Shot’ encourages women and girls to seize the extra opportunities we offer
to either give them a taste of what boxing has to offer or build on their
skills and increase their knowledge around female specific issues in sport.
The project has seen us deliver free non-contact sessions for women and
girls, host sparring days for female boxers registered with England Boxing
and build workshops with inputs from a range of women on female boxing
issues such as making weight, strength and conditioning and nerves.
We have had great media interest in our events and have been covered by
local and national press including Sky Sports Boxing with one of our
sparring sessions attended by Mikeala Mayer as part of her fight week media
tour.
Our next event is a workshop at *Bermondsey Boxing Club on the 8th of
October from 1-4pm*. This is open to all women and girls and comprises of:
*1pm Making Weight* – Sunni Torgman, former England Boxing Development
Champion and nutrition expert. Women focused weight management strategies
and considerations for female athletes.
*2pm Managing Nerves* - Dr Shakiba Moghadam, former ABA national finalist
and Chartered Psychologist - This will focus on the psychology of nerves
and how boxers can use mental skills training to manage them, utilising
strategies that are best suited to the individual.
